What Is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a once-weekly injectable medication that mimics a naturally occurring hormone (GLP-1) involved in appetite and blood sugar regulation.
It may help:
- Reduce hunger
- Increase satiety
- Decrease food intake
- Support metabolic health
It is not a stimulant medication.
Important Safety Information
Semaglutide is not recommended for individuals who:
- Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma
- Have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a history of serious hypersensitivity to semaglutide
Use cautiously in individuals with:
- History of pancreatitis
- Gallbladder disease
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Severe gastrointestinal disorders
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Abdominal discomfort
More serious risks may include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury, and potential thyroid tumors observed in animal studies.
